Soldiers from Chad and Niger who have liberated Damasak from the Islamist group said they discovered the bodies under a bridge on one of the main roads leading out of the town.
Chad's military spokesman Colonel Azem Bermandoa Agouna said: "There are about 100 bodies spread around under the bridge just outside the town... this is the work of Boko Haram."
A Reuters witness said they had counted at least 70 bodies.
Col Agouna, who visited the scene himself close to the border with Niger, claimed the massacre probably occurred about two months ago because the bodies were partially mummified by the dry desert air.
He said several of the victims had been decapitated while others had been shot.
"There are heads here and bodies there, the mass grave has become like a termite mound," he added.
Damasak was seized by Boko Haram in November but recaptured by troops from Niger and Chad on 9 March as part of a multinational effort to wipe out the militants.
All but around 50 of the town's residents had fled by the time Damasak was recaptured. Those who remained were mostly too old or too sick to leave.
Damasak resident Mbodou Moussa said: "People were in town when they (Boko Haram) attacked, they fired at us, we ran away to the bushes but they continued to fire and chased some people to kill them."
Boko Haram has killed thousands of people in a six-year insurgency aimed at establishing an Islamic caliphate in northeast Nigeria.
The regional offensive was launched this year with Chad, Niger and Cameroon as Nigeria, Africa's most populous country and biggest economy, prepares for presidential elections on 28 March.
Nigeria's president Goodluck Jonathan has been criticised for not doing enough to tackle the insurgency.
His challenger Muhammadu Buhari has campaigned on a reputation for toughness gained when he was military ruler of Nigeria in the 1980s.

There is tension in the opposition All Progressives Congress as a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Abdu Kafarati, has given an order for accelerated hearing in a suit brought by a non-governmental organisation, Global Center for Conscious Living Against Corruption, asking for an order of mandamus to compel the Inspector General of Police to investigate allegations of forgery and perjury against the party’s presidential candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari.
In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/172/2015, filed by Professor Andrew Chukwuemerie, SAN, the plaintiffs are seeking the order of the court to order police investigation into the “alleged acquisition and possession of the West African School Certificate by Gen. Muhammad Buhari at Provincial Secondary School, Katsina in view of non-production of the said School Certificate of certified true copy thereof”.
The court originating summons, supported by a 31-paragraph affidavit, sworn to by Joy Odoh, averred that the Inspector-General of Police has an obligation under the Nigerian Constitution to investigate allegations of forgery and lying on oath made against the APC presidential candidate and that the police had refused to do so despite repeated demands.
One of the exhibits attached to the originating summons by the plaintiff is a copy of a letter written by the Test Department of the National Office of the West African Examinations Council in Ghana which states that Buhari’s name and records were not in its examinations archive thus suggesting that he was never a candidate for the examination set by the body.
The plaintiffs contended that Buhari lied on oath and ought to be tried for perjury when he declared in an affidavit submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission that his Secondary School Certificate was with the Military Board, a claim denied by the Board.
The group said the allegations of forgery and perjury were too weighty to be ignored by the police “which has a constitutional duty to investigate all allegations bordering on crime in the interest of justice and that all efforts made to make the police perform its duties have proved futile”.
Meanwhile, subsequent upon an application by the plaintiffs counsel, the court gave an order for accelerated hearing and directed the Inspector-General of Police to enter his defence within seven days.
The plaintiffs are also asking the court to determine whether by virtue of the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Police Act, the Inspector General of Police is not duty bound to investigate the allegations especially when the APC candidate has not submitted either an original copy or a certified true copy of his secondary school certificate to INEC as required by law.

A young lady who identified herself as a known lesbian said that a squad of young men unleashed terror on her and a colleague last Sunday.
She continued that the squad beat them to pulp and destroyed some of their valuables.
Odorkor lesbians are not alone as the Teshie community has also been in the news for similar attacks on gays threatening to visit more mayhem on them if they dare openly come out and confess their sexual orientation.
The attacks on the lesbian community, she said has been incessant. ‘The guys attacked us because they said we are lesbians…we cannot even sit in public for long…,” she said.

Kenyans Thursday reacted angrily to the news that a 100-year-old granny has been jailed at the Embu Women Prison for failing to raise a Sh100,000 fine after she was convicted of contempt of court.
Margaret Ngima was jailed at Embu prison last week for contempt of court after failing to pay a fine of 100,000 Kenyan shillings ( $1,000, GHC3,750), BBC reports.
The great-grandmother was accused of ignoring a court order in a land dispute with another family.
Her case caused outrage in Kenya, with her fine eventually paid for by Nairobi senator Mike Sonko.
The senator also sent what he described as a "rescue squad" to secure her release, one week into a three-month sentence.
The police in Thailand have arrested more than 400 Pakistani Christian refugees, according to CBN News.
Many of the Christians had been accused of blasphemy; thinking that Thailand would provide sanctuary after escaping religious persecution in Pakistan.

A 58-year-old man who was sentenced to death for murder he did not commit and spent nearly four decades behind bars will receive more than $1m from the state for wrongful imprisonment, a court has ruled.
Ricky Jackson, 58, was one of three men sent to death row in 1975 after being convicted of aggravated murder in the slaying of a businessman outside a corner store in Cleveland.
Prosecutors at the time of the case relied on the testimony of a 13 year-old boy to convict Mr Jackson, now 58, and two brothers, Wiley Bridgeman and Ronnie Bridgeman, who were his best friends.
Years later, the boy, Eddie Vernon, who earlier claimed to witness the crime recanted his testimony and told authorities he had never actually witnessed the crime.
According to Sky News, when told of his compensation fee Ricky Jackson said "Wow, wow, wow, that's fantastic, man. I don't even know what to say. This is going to mean so much."
Wiley Bridgeman and Ronnie Bridgeman have not received their compensation yet.
The men’s slow march toward exoneration got its initial boost in 2011 after an investigation by Scene magazine.
